How do I stop my puppy Biting us?

Inside the bundle of cuteness is a puppy with Teeth and Claws that are perfect for biting and scratching our delicate skin. They are still very young and learning how to behave in your house, its up to you as owners to teach them. These are specific issues raised by my puppy owners during my 12 week catch up with them. They all have basic knowledge of Jan Fennell Dog Listening which I urge everyone who has a dog to learn.

My Puppy is Biting socks and feet >  as soon as they move in to attack your socks gently take the collar or lasso with a slip lead and Calm Freeze away from your feet until they relax, repeat this twice, if still going for your feet then throw in a quick 5 min isolate. This should soon stop this form of play and allow you all to move freely.

Nipping the kids > Monitor the play and tell the children to not put their fingers, arms, faces anywhere near the puppy mouth. The puppy will treat them like puppy playmates otherwise, and they can be rough. Teach the children how to do recall using a food reward, walking to heel, playing fetch. Never engage in rough and tumble on the floor. Let the kids play without the dog around! Never ever play tug of war games it literally leads to all sorts of aggressive behaviour.

Chewing things they are not allowed to > recall away from it. Reduce their physical space again away from it, then take it away. If its in their mouth swop for a toy or a food reward when they drop it. When you recall a puppy away from something, its helpful if another person can remove it behind their back! In the beginning make the areas the dog lives in successful by not leaving things lieing around its not allowed, its a puppy they will pick up anything!

Going crazy/zoomies  > go through your progress chart, what aren’t you doing? If you follow the dog listening method of behavious with your puppy then they should not go crazy.  If they are then reduce the physical space the puppy is allowed to back in the kitchen area, put on wellies if you need to, and do nothing. No looking, no talking, just use peripheral vision to make sure the puppy is safe and leave them to calm down themselves. They may up their game initially, so hold firm – thats where wellies/gardening gloves are handy as you don’t react as you are protected!

I hope this helps you. If you want any more advice please do reach out either via facebook messenger, email, phone or whatsapp message.

I enjoy teaching families dog listening via video chat so they can solve all their dogs issues. I also breed and raise the best sproodle puppies I can.
