This is the simple version for feeding a dog that has no behaviour problems but has started to be a fussy eater. For complete success for your dog, Dog Listening is an holistic method that covers FOUR KEY areas in a dogs life to make them be the best companion, and best behaved dog you want in your life. I am assuming you are using a good quality dog food and there are no health issues.
Food for animals is literally a matter of life or death.
We should supply food kindly and immediately so that the dog feels no stress over finding food and feels no stress when its eating.
Method of How to feed a dog successfully
Do not feed at the same time everyday, vary it slightly so the dog does not start demanding food.
Have your food and a normal dog bowl on the kitchen counter, if your dog starts jumping around or whining, then walk away from the food, try again in 5 minutes….only start preparing the food when your dog is silent and calm.
You don’t make any commands, the dog must just be sitting or lying patiently silently waiting, it doesn’t matter how long this takes – it can take hours!
Do not look at or talk to your dog.
Make up the food as you would usually do. As soon as its ready place the food down in an area of the kitchen that is not near any doorways or places people walk.
Do not ask your dog to sit, to give you a paw etc. Just place the bowl down in the right place and then you walk away.
Go far enough so that you can give the dog space to eat peacefully, but close enough so that you can watch using peripheral vision to see whats happening.
If the dog does not go to the food immediately then calmly go and pick the bowl up and feed again at the next meal time.
If the dog starts eating and then stops and walks away half way through, then pick the bowl up and feed again at next mealtime.
Do not talk to or look at the dog as you do this. You never take food away when they are eating.
Some dogs will go two to four days without eating when you start this.
