When I let one of my dogs off lead I do a couple of quick recalls just to remind them of what I expect. This is the extra layer on top of the solid foundation of the re-unite ritual which is done at home so they choose to follow my lead. #doglistening

Dornoch dunes with Tuli. Right at the beginning of our walk she rolls and rolls making sure she smells of this new environment simply to blend in. An ancient survival tactic.

Gorgeous Myrtle so proud of herself. She found the deer skull and then proceeded to carry it for most of the walk. Dogs will sniff out and scavenge food as a natural behaviour. She chewed it a bit but then as we reached nearer to home she dropped it. Tuli was quick to react and pick it up until it came to lead time at the gate when she too happily dropped it.
When you follow #doglistening you remain secure in the knowledge that you have communicated that the humans provide food so things like old skulls are less important than coming home with you.
